ピースボートおりづるプロジェクト

１０月２６日カナダのトロントで、「フラッシュ・オブ・ホープ」の上映会と第一回おりづるプロジェクトに参加してくださったサーロー節子さんのトークがありました。関心のある人が約５０人が集まり、映画に続いてディスカッションやサーローさんへの質疑応答がありました。
この講演会は核兵器に反対する退役軍人の会（VANA）が主催したもので、主催者と参加者の議論の末、以下のような申し立てが満場一致で承認されました。この申し立ては、現在カナダの首相、防衛省、野党党首、その他の政党の安全保障の専門家・批評家にも送られます。
また、（キリスト教の一派である）ユニタリアン派の集会や、主催団体VANAのニューブランスウィック州やサスカッチュワン州の支部にも「フラッシュ・オブ・ホープ」のDVDを送っています。

以下、満場一致で承認された申し立て（２０１０年１０月２６日現在、仮訳）：

オバマ・アメリカ合衆国大統領が２００９年4月、プラハで核兵器なき世界を追求すると演説したこと、

他のNPT（核不拡散条約）加盟国と同様、アメリカ合衆国が「核保有国が核兵器を削減・廃絶する必要がある」ことが強調された２０１０年5月のNPT会議再検討会議の最終文書に合意し、兵器削減の実質的な進展が求められたこと、

また

核分裂を伴おうと臨界実験であろうとも、核実験が核兵器なき世界を求める世界的機運に反するものであり、アメリカ合衆国の（現在の核保有国以外の国に）核兵器保持を禁止する不拡散の政策を明確に傷つけるものであること、

上記のようなことを鑑みて、われわれVANA（核兵器に反対する退役軍人の会）はカナダ政府にアメリカ合衆国政府、およびオバマ大統領に以下のことを要求する。

今後の核実験計画をすべて破棄すること、
また国連総会や他の機会において一日でも早い核兵器の禁止をする

On October 26th 2010 in Toronto Canada, there was a screening and talk by Setsuko Thurlow, one of the Hibakusha on the first Global Voyage for a Nuclear-free World in 2008-2009.

About 50 people or so attended and the film “Flashes of Hope” was screened, followed by discussion and questions. Setsuko therefore was able to elaborate on some aspects that were very helpful to the gathering.

The organizer, Veterans Against Nuclear Arms (VANA), presented a MOTION (see below), got a mover and seconder from the audience and after fascinating discussion it was passed unanimously. It is now to be sent personally to the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Leaders of Opposition Parties, Defence Critics in other parties, etc. And the DVD of the film was sent to the Unitarian congregation and some VANA branches such as one in New Brunswick (a province on the east cost) and one in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (mid-west).

MOTION at the VANA Meeting, October 26, 2010

Whereas US President Obama, in April 2009 in Prague, pledged the US would seek a world without nuclear weapons

Whereas the US, like all other parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, agreed on the final document of the NPT Review Conference in May 2010, which emphasizes “the need for the nuclear weapons states to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons,” and calls for their constraining the development and qualitative improvement of these weapons

And

Whereas nuclear testing, whether by explosion or subcritical, contradicts ongoing global efforts to achieve a world without nuclear weapons, and manifestly undermines the moral ground of the US governments non-proliferation call to any other country to renounce developing nuclear weapons,

Be it therefore resolved that VANA call on the Government of Canada to urge the US government and on President Obama to:

Abandon all future nuclear testing plans, and

Commit itself, at the UN General Assembly and elsewhere to the earliest possible ban on nuclear weapons.
